OpenSolaris is the basis for now launched Oracle Solaris 11. OpenSolaris was both a source code repository as well as a binary distribution. OpenIndiana is one of the binary distributions based upon OpenSolaris Project Indiana. Illumos is one of the source code trees based upon OpenSolaris released source code. Licensing terms on OpenSolaris are closer to OpenIndiana and Illumos, but different from Solaris 11 licensing.
